Paper Wings
20" x 30" Oil on canvas.
Unlike many of my pieces, this one began without a plan. I didn't set out to paint butterflies or tell a specific story. I simply started creating and allowed the painting to evolve one decision at a time.
As the abstract forms developed, I became drawn to their resemblance to folded paper. There was something about their structure and movement that captured my attention, but the painting still felt unfinished. It needed another voice in the conversation.
That's when the butterflies appeared.
What began as abstract shapes transformed into something that felt alive—a reflection on change, growth, and the unexpected directions creativity can take when we allow it room to breathe.
One of the things I love most about painting is that sometimes the work reveals its meaning long after the first brushstroke. Paper Wings is a reminder that not everything needs to be planned. Sometimes the most meaningful discoveries happen when we simply follow where the process leads.
